Youth parliament chair appointed to Scottish charity regulator’s board

The chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament has been appointed to the board of the Scottish charity regulator OSCR, social justice secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville has announced.

Ellie Craig’s four-year term will run from 1 April this year to 31 March 2030.

The role will be part-time, with a commitment of two days each month for a remuneration of £5,387 per year.

Craig has been chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament since June 2024 and has been a trustee of the youth-led charity since 2022. She has been a member of the organisation for nearly seven years.

She has also been a board member of the National Lottery Community Fund since March, where she champions youth voice within the organisation’s governance.

Craig, who is a student at the University of Glasgow, was until this month also a trustee for the national youth charity Young Scot.

Announcing the appointment, the Scottish government said: “Understanding barriers faced by young people and other marginalised groups has been at the forefront of Ellie’s work and her expertise in creating accessible, inclusive and meaningful participation spaces along with extensive knowledge of charity governance is something she’ll bring with her to the work of OSCR.”
