Warner Bros has moved up Practical Magic 2 to the post Labor Day weekend where they launch horror and genre pics, Sept. 11, from its previous Sept. 18 date.
Meanwhile, DC Studios’ Clayface movie, about the Batman antagonist, moves outta Sept 11 to Oct. 23….major shift. In regards to Practical Magic 2, that’s a highly anticipated female-skewing title ala 20th Century Studios’ Devil Wears Prada 2. Note that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice which was a light genre pic from Warner Bros launched in the post Labor Day frame and pulled in 58% females.
On its new date, Practical Magic 2 goes up against Focus Features’ redo of Sense & Sensibility.
In Clayface‘s new spot, the James Watkins directed title goes up against an untitled A24 movie, an untitled Amazon MGM Studios movie, Black Bear’s Guy Ritchie directed Wife & Dog, and an untitled NEON release. Warners always had the date on hold for an untitled event pic. The idea is to have a Halloween event film ala Black Phone 2 and Halloween Kills given the suspense and horror-like nature of Clayface. Script is by Mike Flanaga and Hossein Amini based on DC characters. Producers are Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn, and Peter Safran. EPs are Michael E. Uslan, Chantal Nong Vo, Lars P. Winther, Rafi Crohn, Paul RichieCast: Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan.
Susanne Bier directs Practical Magic 2 off a screenplay by Akiva Goldman and Georgia Prichett based on Alice Hoffman’s. novel, The Book of Magic. Producers are Denise Di Novi, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman (who also stars). EPs are Donald Sabourin and Hoffman. Other cast includes Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod with Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing.
