Oxfam GB appoints second acting chief in six weeks
The charity has appointed Joyce Idoniboye as its acting chief executive, following the departure of Jan Oldfield for another sector role.
Oldfield, who was previously the charity’s chief supporter officer, was appointed after Halima Begum left the organisation late last year. The Times newspaper reported that Begum was forced out by Oxfam GB’s board after an independent review into concerns raised about the charity’s culture.
But in the weeks since, an Oxfam trustee resigned from his post claiming that Begum had been subjected to “cruel and inhumane” treatment and the charity has commissioned an independent review of its board processes.
In a statement, Oxfam GB told Third Sector that Oldfield’s departure from the charity had been planned before Begum left the organisation, with Idoniboye taking on the role until an interim chief executive could be appointed.

This included a £7.6m decline in income from corporate partnerships, from £18.2m in 2023/24 to £10.6m in 2024/25.
The charity also recorded a fall in individual donations and membership income, which dropped from £39.5m in 2023/24 to £37.4m in 2024/25.

CRUK reveals new fundraising chief after previous appointee withdraws
Cancer Research UK has appointed Claudia Nicholls as executive director of marketing, fundraising and engagement after Pete Markey withdrew for personal reasons.
Nicholls has spent the past three years as chief customer officer at the insurance firm Simplyhealth and previously held senior roles at organisations including the money management app Snoop, the price comparison website Moneysupermarket, Which? and Pizza Hut.
The charity announced in September that it had hired Markey, former chief marketing officer at Boots, to succeed Phil Almond, who is retiring from full-time employment after six years in the role.
But a spokesperson for CRUK said: “Due to personal and health circumstances, the previous candidate decided not to proceed.”
