The man accused of shooting and killing King of the Hill voice actor Jonathan Joss has been indicted for murder.
Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, was indicted on one count of murder by a grand jury on Monday, November 17th, according to Bexar County court records (via PEOPLE). The suspect was arrested following Joss’ death in June and charged with first-degree murder. He was later released after posting a $200,000 bond.
Joss, born Jonathan Joss Gonzales, was fatally shot at the site of his burned-down San Antonio, Texas home on June 1st following a heated dispute with Ceja Alvarez. The actor’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, who witnessed the shooting, later issued a statement revealing that Ceja Alvarez approached them while “yelling violent homophobic slurs” and fired his gun.

“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone,” Kern de Gonzales wrote, adding that the incident came after “two years of threats” over their sexuality. “We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.”
Ceja Alvarez fled the scene in a vehicle but told police officers, “I shot him,” when detained by authorities. He also admitted that he “intentionally and knowingly discharged a weapon,” according to a police report obtained by PEOPLE.
However, Ceja Alvarez’s attorney told KSAT in late June that the shooting was done in self-defense, explaining that it had “nothing to do with sexual orientation,” but rather resulted from a “very long time of torment in that neighborhood” from Joss.
Joss voiced John Redcorn on King of the Hill from Seasons 2 to 13, and was able to record lines for his appearance in the recent Hulu revival before his death. Another notable role was Chief Ken Hotate on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.
