Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services has appointed Jeff Scales as its next chief executive.
Scales joins from Locality, the membership body supporting community-led charities, where he has spent nearly 10 years as its head of services (north and central regions).
He will replace the charity’s interim chief executive, Alison Hall, who joined in April following the departure of former CEO Clare White.
Scales began his career in the management and development of social housing, with early roles involving supporting council tenants to take on the management of their own homes.
He also managed Sheffield City Council’s portfolio of community buildings, including supporting community asset transfers.
“Jeff is extremely mission-driven, choosing to work in roles that have a high impact and are underpinned by community empowerment,” Liverpool CVS said.
In his role at Locality, Scales has overseen a shift in the charity’s service offer with a move from a grant-funded team to one that is funded entirely by programme and consultancy income.
This includes working in partnership with local VCSE support organisations similar to LCVS.
“I am very excited about joining LCVS. I recognise its rich history and importance as a key anchor institution for the city. I have spent a lot of time in Liverpool over the years working with different organisations,” Scales said.
“There is definitely something distinct and infectious about the place and how this translates into the passion of those leading and working for VCSE organisations based there.
“I very much appreciate the opportunity and I will repay the faith that the trustees have placed in me by approaching this role with passion and commitment.”
The charity could not confirm Scales’ starting date.
