An HIV and Aids support charity has announced its closure after 37 years because of difficulty in securing funding amid rising costs.

NAM Aidsmap, which provides information and resources on HIV and Aids, had eight employees and an income of £764,449 in 2022, according to its latest accounts on the Charity Commission’s online register.

It recorded spending of £746,749 over the same period.

“As you may know, the HIV sector faces numerous challenges and uncertainties,” the charity said.

“With broader access to prevention and treatment, and more widely accessible information, it has become increasingly difficult for us to secure funding amid rising costs.”

The charity said it could not see a sustainable path forward despite exploring alternatives.

“We must make this decision while still solvent to ensure a respectful and orderly wind-up for our staff, freelancers, partners, funders, beneficiaries and suppliers.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported our vision for a world where HIV is no longer a threat to health or happiness.

“We are incredibly proud of the millions we’ve reached worldwide and the grassroots ingenuity and commitment of our team and partners.

“Together, we have made a difference.”
