The chief executive of the Barrow Cadbury Trust is to step down after 15 years in the role.

Dame Sara Llewellin, who joined the grantmaker in December 2009, will remain in post until her successor is appointed but is expected to leave by the end of March 2025.

Llewellin, who was made a dame in 2021 for services to social justice, was previously deputy director at the City Bridge Foundation and before that led the support charity the St Giles Trust.

“I have enjoyed the honour of leading this most amazing organisation, and it will truly be a wrench to leave it,” Llewellin said of the Barrow Cadbury Trust.

“Our board and colleagues are all driven by a shared value base and to be able to pursue our social justice goals with so many wonderful partners, not to mention our independent means, is indeed a great privilege.”

Erica Cadbury, chair of the grantmaker, said: Sara has ably led the trust in new as well as long-standing directions, notably in social investment, shareholder activism and in international fora.

“We will miss her greatly.”
