Horniman Museum and Gardens has appointed Gordon Seabright as its next chief executive.
Seabright, who has spent the past four years as chief executive of the Creative Land Trust, succeeds Nick Merriman, who left the Horniman in October to become chief executive of English Heritage.
Victoria Pinnington, the Horniman’s director of communications and income generation, has been interim chief executive since February.
The heritage charity owns a Grade II listed building in south London featuring displays of anthropology, natural history and musical instruments.
Seabright had previous roles as chief executive of the Eden Project and Cycling UK, along with senior roles at the Royal Horticultural Society and English Heritage. He is a trustee of the health charity Parkrun Global.
He said: “What a privilege it is to join the brilliant team at the Horniman.
“I’m grateful to the trustees for appointing me as chief executive, and excited to begin working with my new colleagues.
“The Horniman is a very special place, and we’ll be working to make it even more successful for our local communities and for national and international audiences.”
Seabright will take up his new role in June.
