Major health foundation appoints new chief executive

Charity

Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation has appointed Laurie Lee as its next chief executive.

Lee has been interim head of the charity since April 2023, after Kieron Boyle announced he would leave after seven years in the role to take up the top job at the Impact Investing Institute.

Before joining the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, Lee was chief executive of Care International UK and previously held senior leadership positions at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and was a senior government adviser.

The Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, which has an endowment worth £1bn, works to support patients and staff at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust through its three NHS charities: Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity, Evelina London Children’s Charity and Guy’s Cancer Charity.

Lee said: The vital work the foundation does to improve health outcomes has never been more relevant.

“At a time when our nation’s health faces such significant and complex challenges, our mission to build the foundations of a healthier society is more urgent than ever.

“I am determined and confident that, together and with our people and partners, we can create the positive impact we know is needed.”

Susanne Given, chair of the Guy’s & St Thomas’s Foundation, said Lee “brings extensive experience to the role from across several senior third sector and government roles”.

She said: “Throughout the process, Laurie embodied a deep commitment to building the foundations of a healthier society.

“Supported by the board, the wider executive team and our colleagues, we have every confidence that Laurie at the helm will drive forward our mission in the coming years.”
