‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Concert Movie Sets World Premiere Event In Los Angeles

You didn’t actually think there wouldn’t be a world premiere for the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film?

The biggest theatrical exhibitor in the U.S. and the world, AMC Theatres, has announced that the most highly anticipated movie on the fall theatrical release calendar will be holding a world premiere event on Oct. 11 in Los Angeles. The venue TBD.

The world premiere comes two days before the Sam Wrench directed movie opens in north of 7,500 cinemas worldwide on Oct. 13, 6PM local time. The pic is booked in more than 100 countries.

There’s no word yet whether Swift will be in-person, but hint hint, the Eras Tour concert film did secure a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement, that is if the strike is still going on at that time. That agreement allows Swift to feasibly promote the film. Also, it’s not clear if the concert film will be a simulcast national event on Imax and premium screens. The Talking heads reunion/40th anniversary live event Imax showing of concert pic Stop Making Sense made over $641K in one night, making it the highest grossing Imax live event pic ever at 165 Imax U.S. auditoriums and the BFI Imax in London. Surely, Swift will be the one to take the money away and bury that Talking Heads record; that is if a live world premiere event is held.

A couple of weeks ago, we told you that the Eras Tour has earned north of $65M in presales from the top three circuits in the U.S. (AMC, Regal and Cinemark) as well as Canada’s Cineplex and Mexico’s Cinépolis. Lord, knows that number is so much bigger. While many believe that Eras Tour has a shot at $100M opening for the AMC distributed movie, even if it opens at $75M, that’s more than any major rock concert film from Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus, heck it’s more than the $56M global gross of the Spice Girls’ Spice World movie back in 1997 (it was a musical, not a concert film).

The Eras Tour alone shattered the record for single-day advance ticket sales revenue at AMC in the U.S. with more than $26M in ticket sales revenue in one day.
