Youth charity reveals next chief executive

Charity

A Cumbria-based charity that supports children and young people has appointed Teresa Jennings as its new chief executive.

She joins the Brathay Trust after spending eight years at the helm of n-compass, a health and social care charity based in Preston, Lancashire, which grew from 70 employees to 170 and increased its turnover from £2.1m to £7m during her tenure.

Jennings succeeds Godfrey Owen, who last month stepped down from the Brathay Trust after 29 years, 16 of them as chief executive, to become a freelance consultant and coach.

The Brathay Trust supports children and young people facing challenges in their lives who are referred through schools, third sector partners and statutory agencies.

It is supported through a range of its own not-for-profit enterprises, including challenge events for the public and individual and team leadership development programmes for businesses.

Jennings said she was looking forward to using her people skills, experience in change management and business acumen to further strengthen the Brathay Trust’s impact and reach.

“I have worked in the third sector for most of my adult working life,” she said.

“The charity’s founding purpose, and the difference Brathay makes to people’s lives, are very tangible and compelling to me.

“However, it’s not just about the lives of those we support and serve. It also matters hugely to me that Brathay has a healthy workplace culture for our employees and volunteers.

“I look forward to leading Brathay on its journey towards increased impact and being recognised as a great place to work and volunteer.”
