The process to turn off or force restart an iPhone 13 isn’t exactly intuitive, especially for users switching from an Android phone or upgrading from an older iPhone model. On the iPhone 8 and earlier, Apple had a relatively simple process for powering off which involved long-pressing the side button until the Power Off slider appeared. It’s a similar process on most Android phones. When Apple swapped out the Home button / Touch ID sensor in favor of Face ID on the iPhone X, it also changed the way users could power off their devices.
Apple doesn’t provide an option to restart an iPhone and requires users to manually turn it on after it’s switched off. However, there is an option to force restart an iPhone (also called a hard reset). A force restart may be required if the iPhone is frozen or unresponsive. If the device can’t be powered off the usual way, a force restart can usually solve the problem. It’s important to note that when an iPhone is forced to restart, it doesn’t shut down the way it should. As a result, this action should only be performed if really required. Force restarting an iPhone too often can cause problems in the long run.
The steps to power off an iPhone 13 are the same for all models in the series – iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. To do this, simultaneously press and hold the side button and either volume button (up or down). Keep the buttons pressed until a screen appears with a ‘Slide to Power Off‘ and Emergency SOS toggle. Slide the Power Off toggle all the way to turn off the iPhone. If Find My has been set up to locate the iPhone even after it’s switched off, users will see the text ‘iPhone Findable After Power Off‘ under the slider. To exit the screen without turning off the iPhone, tap the cancel button at the bottom or press the side button once.
Force Restart Or Hard Reset An iPhone 13
The process to force restart an iPhone 13 is somewhat trickier. As per Apple, users will need to follow this sequence. First, press and release the volume up button. Then press and release the volume down button. Finally, press and hold the side button. Release the button only when the Apple logo appears on the screen. Note that these actions need to be performed in quick succession for a forced restart to work. The same method can be used to force restart the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPhone 12.
If an iPhone 13 seems to be getting frozen or stuck frequently, it’s a good idea to figure out what’s causing the issue. It’s important to make sure that the iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS to keep things running smoothly and ensure the security patches are up to date. If a particular app is causing the iPhone to freeze, check if there’s an update available on the App Store. Given that the iPhone 13 is a new device, users should contact Apple support to rule out any hardware issues if the problem persists.
