Charity hopes to raise £10m from new Morrisons partnership

Together for Short Lives has been named as the next charity partner for the supermarket Morrisons.

The partnership, which will begin in February, is expected to raise £10m for the charity over three years.

The charity, which had an income of £4.4m in the year to the end of March 2020, said the partnership would make a “transformational” difference to its work.

Together for Short Lives provides information and support for families with a seriously ill child and supports 54 children’s hospices around the UK.

The funds raised will go to local children’s hospices and towards a new project to increase access to hospices and other children’s palliative care services for those who are not yet being reached.

The charity was chosen from more than 100 that applied to become the retailer’s next charity partner and won a staff vote between it and Action for Children at the final stage.

Young Lives vs Cancer has been Morrisons’ charity partner for the past five years and the retailer has raised more than £17m for the charity during that time.

Andy Fletcher, chief executive of Together for Short Lives, said: “A partnership of this scale is just transformational.

“Together for Short Lives cannot save a child’s life, but with help from Morrisons colleagues and customers we can make sure that no family has to suffer through their child’s short life alone, and instead can treasure every moment they have together.”

David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons, said: “It’s been a privilege to support Young Lives vs Cancer for the last five years and I’d like to thank our colleagues, customers and suppliers for their efforts in raising over £17m – in particular, our community champions, who have worked so tirelessly.

“We’re looking forward to teaming up with Together for Short Lives and providing vital support for children’s hospices across our local communities.”
