Taylor Swift Has Another Gift for Us: A Surprise Video Directed by Blake Lively

Pop Culture
Swift gives fans a re-recorded Red, an SNL appearance for the ages, and now an upcoming music video from her movie star pal.

The Autumn of Taylor Swift just got even livelier.

After her record-demolishing release of Red (Taylor’s Version) and appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers before a triumphant 10-minute performance of “All Too Well” on Saturday Night Live (hell, even the Grateful Dead kept it to three-and-a-half minutes!) Swift isn’t finished.

“SURPRISE!” she exclaimed on social media, announcing the drop of a new music video on Monday, 10 a.m. Eastern time. Not any old video, but one directed by her longtime chum Blake Lively.

The 10-second promo for “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” shows a red velvet wedding cake with two small gashes in the frosting. Then a hand enters the frame to rip up the cake even more. The text reveals a shared “written by” credit for Swift and Lively and anounces Lively as director.

A link to YouTube leads to a static page with a countdown clock over an image of Swift, mid-vocalization, holding a red guitar, in a red dress, on a red stage.

“I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” is one of the “From The Vault” tracks on the newly-released Red (Taylor’s Version) re-recording, meaning it was written for the original 2012 Red album but never made it out into the world. Its co-author is Lori McKenna and it features vocal harmonies with Chris Stapleton.

The video will mark Lively’s first work behind the camera. She and Swift were seen the night before the announcement at an SNL afterparty, along with Lively’s yuckster husband Ryan Reynolds, Anya Taylor-Joy, and actress Sadie Sink, who appeared in Swift’s “All Too Well” video.

Swift fans accepted the news in their typically reserved fashion, taking a “wait and see” approach before offering any comment.

I joke. Swifties went bananas, as is their right, hitting “like” on Taylor’s tweet 300,000 times in under two hours. A selection of some of the more entertaining responses follows.
