Lucifer Season 5 Original Ending For Ella Revealed | Screen Rant

Movies

Lucifer’s co-showrunner reveals what Ella’s original ending would have been. Since premiering in 2016, Lucifer has made a point of expanding beyond its devilish protagonist. It has introduced viewers Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), Lucifer’s partner in the LAPD, Detective Daniel Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro), Chloe’s ex-husband, and the father of their child. Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) quickly proved significant, given their supernatural status and close ties to Lucifer. Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris) initially rounded out the core cast as Lucifer’s therapist, Linda.

But at the beginning of season 2, Aimee Garcia joined the show in the role of Ella Lopez. A forensic scientist with a bubbly personality, Ella was gradually distinguished from her human counterparts in one significant way: Eventually, Chloe, Dan, and Linda all found out the truth that Lucifer, Maze, and Amenadiel were celestial begins. But even as the series progressed, Ella remained in the dark about the true nature of some of her closest friends. This has led many viewers to wonder just what might happen if the character discovered what was really going on. Fans got their answer in Lucifer season 6, episode 7, as Ella drunkenly bursts out at the wedding of Maze and Eve (Inbar Lavi) that she knows all about the celestial secrets that have been hidden from her. It’s a moment that’s both comedic and dramatic, with the character going on to confess in subsequent episodes that she felt betrayed for being left out.

In an interview with TV Line, co-showrunner Joe Henderson revealed that the original plan for Ella’s discovery was much more lowkey. He also shed light on why the change was made. You can read his quote below.

“In the 5B coda, she found out in a completely different, fun way. In the 5B coda, we had set up that she was going to be watching Charlie, and when Amenadiel and Linda walk in, Ella’s like, “Hey guys, I don’t know how to tell you this….” — and she lifts Charlie up and his wings are out. They were like, “Ella, we can explain…,” and she is like, “No, actually I kind of get it.” We like the idea of a beginning as an ending, but it was so much more rewarding to explore the heartbreak of being left out, and that sense of “Why wouldn’t anyone tell me?” Thank God we got to tell that story, and all these other stories.”

Lucifer Ella Lopez Season 6

Lucifer had already explored (with Linda, Chloe, and Dan) what it would be like to experience confusion, fear, and anger upon learning the truth. What makes Ella’s reaction unique is that her sense of hurt and displacement comes from a different place that is true to her character. Ella, as Henderson indicates, has always been a person of faith despite occasional doubts. It wouldn’t make sense that she would respond to the truth with much shock.

However, considering how Ella has worn her heart on her sleeve in the past, it makes sense that she would be slighted by essentially being the last person to find out. Still, by the end of season 6, as Lucifer approached its final episode, she had moved past the hurt to share a lovely moment with The Devil himself. All and all, by forgoing a small moment in favor of something bigger, the writers were able to do right by Ella.
