Comic Relief offers grants of up to £300,000 for mental health schemes

Charity

Charities are being invited to apply for up to £300,000 in funding for schemes that use the arts and comedy to challenge mental health stigma.

The grant-maker Comic Relief and snack manufacturer Walkers have launched a new fund worth up to £1.7m that will award up to 12 charities grants of between £100,000 to £300,000.

It will support organisations that focus on early intervention and community-based approaches and applications can include a mixture of project delivery and core costs.

Charities with annual incomes of between £75,000 and £10m are eligible to apply and funding is available for between 18 months and 30 months.

Comic Relief said that because it expected demand to exceed the funds available, it would use criteria to assess proposals including giving priority to proposals that reach people with prolonged or ongoing experience of the issues, and to proposals offering opportunities to actively participate in creative activities rather than just watching or visiting.

Priority will also be given to ensure funds cover a geographical spread of projects across the UK, it said.

Proposals are now open and will close on the morning of 15 September.
