Third Sector Podcast: Lonely at the top

Charity

In this episode of the Third Sector Podcast, features and analysis writer Rebecca Cooney and editor Emily Burt discuss whether the pandemic has prompted a leadership exodus from the charity sector.

Rebecca wrote about this issue for the most recent edition of Third Sector (full article here), exploring whether charity chief executives are stepping down from leadership roles, moving to less high-pressure jobs or leaving the sector altogether. She and Emily discuss what she found.

Later, Emily chats to Martin Edwards, chief executive of the children’s hospice Julia’s House, about what leaders can do to support each other.

This week’s Good News Bulletin includes:

  • The news that the Salford-based homelessness charity Loaves and Fishes is set to feature on the Community Chest square of the Salford edition of the Monopoly board.
  • The Dogs Trust’s charity shop in Rayleigh, Essex, which has become the first of the charity’s retail outlets to raise a total of £1m for the charity.
