Speakers announced for Third Sector Fundraising conference

Charity

Charmaine Griffiths, chief executive of the British Heart Foundation, Amar Abbas, chief executive of Youth Action, and Gemma Sherrington, director of fundraising and marketing at Save the Children, will speak at Third Sector’s 2021 Fundraising Conference in May.

The annual conference will be held online this year, as the UK continues to follow the roadmap out of the Covid-19 crisis, and will focus on core topics including building post-pandemic revenue strategies and promoting innovation within organisations.

BHF’s Griffiths will open the two-day event with a fireside chat covering effective leadership and the importance of fostering a sense of trust and loyalty among staff in uncertain times.

Griffiths was appointed chief executive of the charity one month before the Covid-19 crisis took hold, and spent her first year in post navigating the pandemic.

Youth Actions Abbas will chair a panel on diversity, equality and inclusion, which reflects on the progress made by the charity sector over the past year, and the many challenges that still lie ahead.

And on 28 May, Save the Childrens Sherrington will discuss moving beyond transactional fundraising to engage donors in a more personalised experience, and creating membership models that will build fundraising communities for organisations.

Other speakers across the two-day event include Nana Crawford, social media manager at British Red Cross, Noha Al-Afifi, director of fundraising and communications at Arthritis Action, and Nathan Pinkney, chief executive of Peoples Fundraising.

“I look forward to welcoming people to this year’s fundraising conference next month,” Third Sector editor Emily Burt said. “It promises to be an event that brings together fascinating stories and insights after an unprecedented year.”
