The best beach hotels in Cyprus, including ocean views, seafront restaurants and activities galore

Destinations

These are unusual times, and the state of affairs can change quickly. Please check the latest travel guidance before making your journey. Our writers visited these hotels pre-pandemic.

Cyprus has some fabulous beaches – from pebbly coves and sandy shores, to rural dunes and buzzy seasides – so expect some equally as wonderful beachside hotels when you come to book your holiday. The crystal clear, safe Mediterranean waters offer endless opportunities to enjoy swimming, diving at world famous sites, snorkelling off shore, waterskiing and windsurfing, while on land one may simply seek serviced sunloungers and lunch by the marina. Add state-of-the-art gyms, plush spas, kids’ clubs, adults-only infinity pools, meadering lagoon-style pools, fine dining terraced restaurants and sea-view cocktail bars, and you have an altogether tempting package for your next trip. So, for some inspiration on where to choose, here’s our pick of the best beach hotels in Cyprus.

Anassa Hotel

Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus

9
Telegraph expert rating

The Akamas national park, the fringes of which Anassa is located, is home to rare butterflies and orchids, many endemic to the park that covers a wild peninsula near the coastal village of Neo Chorio. Hidden behind mature greenery, the whitewashed, tiered, hotel gently cascades down to the sandy beach of Chrysochou Bay. You can gaze at the sea from the wraparound windows, balconies and terraces of most rooms, which have been transformed into luxurious retreats presented in soothing neutral shades. Weekly barbecues are served on the beach, while Pelagos (one of four restaurants, plus the “village square”) is a seafront taverna where the drama of an open kitchen is a focal point. Drinks-wise, there are also four bars: the Amorosa Lounge, Armonia, the Meltemi swim-up bar, and the Blue Bar on the beach.

Crowne Plaza Limassol

Limassol, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

Formally the Churchill Limassol, which is widely considered a forerunner of beach hotels on the southern shores of Cyprus, this four-star superior hotel offers design features, tasteful accommodation and leisure facilities, plus a clutch of restaurants favoured by locals. “Smiley” and “efficient” come to mind when describing the staff, which is reassuring when you need to get to grips with the layouts of sprawling Cyprus beach resorts like this. It is all built around a large swimming pool in gardens close to Dasoudi beach, and has a children’s playground, table tennis facilities and seemingly endless sun terraces. Inside is a small wellness suite with a pool, saunas and steam rooms. Dining on terraces overlooking the Mediterranean is the deal here.

Mediterranean Beach Hotel

Limassol, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

With many trappings of a five-star resort, this family-friendly spot exudes the quiet confidence of a hotel that has pretty much got it right. The use of natural colours, with splashes of bright accent shades complemented by wood and marble, has given it a contemporary edge, while a decorative palette inspired by the Mediterranean – in other words, shades of blue, turquoise and gold and seaside-themed pictures – in rooms give them a fresh feel. The fusion restaurants are super; staff are friendly and helpful; there are measures in place to reduce the hotel’s environmental footprint; and the immaculately-kept gardens tier down to an award-winning beach. There’s also a spa, gym, tennis court, a scuba diving centre and three pools.

Leonardo Plaza Cypria Maris Beach Hotel & Spa

Paphos, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

Located right on the seafront along what is locally known as The Strip, this sprawling, modern four-star hotel is a little way out of the centre of Paphos but buses do stop near its entrance and there’s a 30-minute coastal walkway. A sandy cove-like beach can be found at the end of a path from the pool, and although not owned by the hotel – all beaches in Cyprus are public – it is managed by the resort’s friendly team, who are always on hand to help, and sunbeds and towels are provided free for guests. There are two swimming pools, plus courts for tennis and squash, a spa, and evening entertainment. With elegant décor, comfy furniture and an informal, personal feel, this is one of the best adults-only Cyprus hotels on the beach for an all-inclusive holiday.

Alexander the Great Beach Hotel

Paphos, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

Minutes from the harbour, this elegant hotel is ideal for a beach holiday. Along with its Serenity health complex – featuring indoor and outdoor pools complete with water jets, whirlpools and a swim-up bar – the hotel offers children’s play areas and a club, tennis and a choice of good restaurants. Dining is as much about the panoramic view of the ocean and Paphos coastline as it is about the food. Arguably the best seats in the house are on the terrace of Seven Orchids, an à la carte restaurant, or in the beachside Limanaki taverna which serves traditional Cypriot dishes accompanied by bouzouki music. Rooms are stylish, and each has a balcony that looks out over the Mediterranean or inland to the Troodos Mountains in the distance.

Four Seasons Hotel

Limassol, Cyprus

9
Telegraph expert rating

This five-star is lavish in the extreme. Here, celebrities rub shoulders with affluent leisure and business travellers. Far from promoting decadence however, it abides by an environmental policy that addresses water and power consumption, chemical use and more. Facilities include the dark, atmospheric Shiseido Spa with its thermal suites and freshwater pool, while further pools are in the grounds, including an adults-only infinity-style spot that looks out over the ocean and a children’s area with a water slide. Add five excellent restaurants (including the exquisite Vivaldi Mavrommatis) plus smart rooms and suites and a collection of adults-only studios dotted around a river-like pool in the gardens, and you might never want to leave.
