Boutique hotels with sumptuous, eclectic or cutting edge design features and décor can be found throughout Cyprus. Some, complete with wellness centres and gourmet restaurants, are dotted amongst country vineyards and citrus groves, and tend to attract discerning travellers keen to absorb themselves in nature, while others take full advantage of their city centre or beachside location with stylish courtyards or terraces and pools around which to relax. Quiet luxury, security and the sense of feeling cosseted in thoughtful surrounds is at the heart of our pick of the best boutique hotels in Cyprus, below.

The Ciao Stelio Deluxe Hotel

Larnaca, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

Those in the know, and especially those who adore design hotels, are beating a path to the door of adults-only Ciao Stelio, which dominates the street scene beside Mackenzie Beach. The team here are friendly and knowledgeable, and always ready with a glass of juice or water to refresh you, which is a nice touch, as is complimentary wine in your room on arrival. Facilities are few (guests have access to a pool and gym nearby) but pre-dinner cocktails with artfully presented canapés are served in the stylish Grand Bar. Gastronomy is the deal in the hotel’s similarly attired Enigma Restaurant where crisp linens, heavy sparkling glassware and atmospheric lighting set the scene.

Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort

Miliou, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

This luxurious collection of 56 stone suites and bungalows, two restaurants, a lounge bar and a spa, formed within a monastic building, has been a wellness retreat since 1649. It has a sublime sense of calmness, accentuated by the surrounding unspoilt countryside that is especially lush due to a constant supply of fresh spring water for which Miliou is famed. In keeping with the ethos of the retreat (think healthy, fresh produce and an environmentally friendly design), the décor is appropriately natural, with a creamy white palette, stone walls, wooden beams, marble floors and wood furniture. Subtle lighting, elegant window dressings and large beds with big snuggly duvets complete the picture. All have balconies or terraces.

SENTIDO Thalassa Coral Bay

Coral Bay, Paphos, Cyprus

9
Telegraph expert rating

Located in the heart of the Coral Bay coastal strip, this luxurious adults-only hotel may seem like a treat for prying eyes but in fact its position on a promontory and obfuscation by mature trees and gardens make it feel intimate and private. The interiors are decked out in honey and cream tones, with crystal lamps, marble floors and huge potted plants, while large floor-to-ceiling windows together with the vaulted ceiling of its main restaurant and bar makes it feel light, spacious and welcoming. Staff have the knack of making you feel special whether you are simply ordering a mint tea to sip on the sun terrace or arriving at the spa. It is also famous for being one of a handful of hotels in Cyprus to offer a private butler service.

Lokàl Hotel

Larnaca, Cyprus

8
Telegraph expert rating

Stepping inside this 19th-century listed mansion will take your breath away. Its old wooden beams and traditional Cypriot stone archways now provide a backdrop to an edgy new look with lots of glass and a design-led extension. The 17 rooms and suites continue the look with an eclectic mix of antique and ultra-modern features along with white linens, walls, ceilings and floors that accentuate pops of colours (purples, grey). As a family-run, adults-only hotel, the place has that warm, homely feel, and while there isn’t a raft of amenities, the courtyard, which is a real suntrap, is popular with guests, along with a super bistro and a roof terrace with a glass-fronted pool and bar.

Boutique style meets resort scale at this Limassol seafront hotel. Trendy furnishings such as blond wood tables and chairs crafted in a quirky, Flintstone-like design grace the foyer lounge, and the adjacent bar that looks out over sundecks is resplendent in its super shiny décor. Each of the 68 rooms and suites continue the theme with a colour palette that uses creamy white for walls and soft furnishings with accent colours coming from rugs and cushions. Many of the staff have been there for decades and are friendly and knowledgeable across the top-notch Italian restaurant, sundecks and pool, and brightly presented spa.
