The preview for the latest Iron Fist comic reveals a new monster lurking within the Marvel Universe known as the Hidden Dragon. This newest issue is the third installment in Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon which stresses the importance of dragons as a species on a universal scale. Danny Rand is charged with protecting the mystical beasts at all costs, which means his latest potential threat should prove to be difficult for Iron Fist to defeat in more ways than one.
In the preview for Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon #3 by Larry Hama with art by Dave Wachter and Neeraj Menon, readers are taken into the Citadel of the Hidden City where residents look in horror upon a potential threat known as the Hidden Dragon looming over them all. A depiction of a television news report reveals the Hidden City is floating over the city of Tokyo, Japan. In related news, an army of undead ninjas is reportedly terrorizing citizens and a local hero is on the scene fending off the hazardous danger.

Japan’s own Radiance is fighting the ninjas, using her laser-light powers to vaporize the army of the undead. During the battle, Radiance notices the Hidden Dragon crawling on a Hidden City tower. Taking the beast’s presence as an additional threat, Radiance gears up to fight the ancient serpent before being interrupted by another Marvel hero. Iron Fist joins the fight, both to help battle the ninjas and fulfill an entirely separate mission simultaneously.
Iron Fist tells Radiance that dragons are to be protected at all cost. The dangers to the universe that would come upon the deaths of too many dragons are believed to be catastrophic, which is why Iron Fist is charged with their protection. Radiance offers no objections to Iron Fist’s explanation, instead, she asks the protector of K’un Lun to assist her in the dismantling of the army of ninja-zombies, an offer Iron Fist happily accepts.
While the focus of this Iron Fist preview was mostly on the undead ninjas as the titular hero’s main villains, the Hidden Dragon is certainly teased to be the up-and-coming threat. It is made clear that the Hidden City residents are familiar with dragons, some of them appearing within the crowd of frightened onlookers, but even so, the people there were scared by the appearance of the Hidden Dragon. The nature of the potentially malicious dragon is at the moment unclear, but if it does turn out to be villainous, it will prove to be challenging for Iron Fist to defeat for multiple reasons. Not only could this new monster’s power level be astronomical, but Iron Fist would also be going against his code in fighting it. Rand is tasked with protecting all dragons, including the Hidden Dragon as fans saw him do in the preview, so if it proved to be a villain, Iron Fist will be in for the fight of his life.
