Ariana Grande’s new album Positions dropped last night, and the bulk of it seems to give a revealing look into her new relationship with Los Angeles real estate agent Dalton Gomez. Grande touches on their emotional connection in some tracks: how exceptional and serious their relationship has gotten and how hard it was for her to initially love again after her past experiences, especially after her ex Mac Miller died. But that’s not all: Of course, on the album literally called Positions, she dedicated a song or two to their sex life.
“34+35” is one of them—and the most graphic, horny one on the album. It starts with the title: As Grande put it in the last verses of the song, “Thirty-four, thirty-five (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)/Yeah, yeah, yeah/Means I wanna ’69’ with you/No shit/Math class/Never was good.”
But this isn’t a typical lust track: There are deeper lyrics throughout to show that Grande sees her relationship with Gomez as something serious and long-lasting, maybe even for the rest of her life. The first verse is the most overt, with Grande singing about starting a family with her partner: “You might think I’m crazy/The way I’ve been cravin’/If I put it quite plainly/Just give me them babies.” Grande adds later, “who’s counting the time when we got it for life?”
One source spoke to Us Weekly in August about how none of Grande’s past boyfriends ever “met her needs in the same way Dalton does.”
“He is the type of guy she has been looking for,” the source said. “He’s very protective of her, will go out of his way for her and does little things that are chivalrous. Dalton will go above and beyond to meet her needs.” Well, clearly, in every way.
