The 2.6 Challenge and the #ClapForOurCarers campaign were among the winners on the first day of this year’s Third Sector Awards.
The winners of the awards, which recognise the achievements of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises, are being announced online over two days for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 2.6 Challenge, which was put together by the leaders of the country’s biggest mass-participation sports events to raise funds for charities affected by the outbreak, won the Fundraising Campaign award.
#ClapForOurCarers, which was started as a way of thanking NHS workers for their efforts during lockdown and swiftly became a national phenomenon, was named Communications Campaign of the Year.
Other winners included The Fostering Network, which took home the Big Impact Award for its Mockingbird programme, which aims to improve the stability of fostering placements and strengthen the relationships between foster carers, children and young people, fostering services and birth families.
The comedian Al Murray was named Celebrity Charity Champion for his support of the blood cancer charity the DKMS Foundation.
Media Trust won the Best Charity Film award, for its #WordsTakeYouPlaces campaign.
War Child UK won the Fundraising Event awards for Day of the Girl.
The second set of awards will be revealed at 5pm tomorrow (Thursday).
