Amazon Studios is reportedly in final negotiations to purchase the worldwide rights to the film adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse from Paramount Pictures starring Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed). Studios have been trying to have the movie made since 1995 with several failed attempts before filming began on this iteration in 2019.
Variety is reporting the deal claiming it makes sense for Amazon to purchase the property for their streaming service. Amazon also produces another Clancy property Jack Ryan, the espionage series starring John Krasinski, which has been renewed for a third season. If successful, the deal would be an attractive addition for the streaming service by giving it a major action-adventure film with one of the most sought-after actors. With most domestic theaters still closed due to the pandemic, Paramount has already sold some of its titles to streaming services. It has previously moved Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 and The Lovebirds to Netflix. Other significant releases from multiple studios have been pushed to 2021.
Jordan plays U.S. Navy SEAL John Clark, who finds himself caught in a conspiracy after the death of his wife. Clark is one of Clancy’s most popular characters previously played by Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger and Liev Schreiber The Sum of All Fears. It is directed by Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, ZeroZeroZero). It co-stars Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Luke Mitchell. Taylor Sheridan and Akiva Goldsman both worked on the screenplay. Jordan acts as producer along with Goldsman, Josh Appelbaum, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and André Nemec. Skydance Media co-financed the picture. Without Remorse is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime.
