Charity regulators for UK and Ireland announce ‘convenors’ for Sorp

The four charity regulators for the UK and Ireland have announced a group of “convenors” who will gather views relating to areas of charity reporting.

The regulators said seven people had been chosen to take views on various aspects of charity reporting as part of an overhaul of how the charity Statement of Recommended Practice is overseen.

The charity Sorp sets out the framework for how larger charities prepare their annual reports and accounts.

The newly appointed convenors will each have a dedicated “engagement strand” covering different areas of charity accounting, including larger charities, trustees, smaller charities and independent examiners.

The appointees include Roberto Fusco from the Charity Finance Group, Louise Thomson from the Chartered Governance Institute, Christine Scott from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and Tony Ward from The Wheel.

Lindsay Montgomery, chair of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, said: “Charity annual reports and accounts are a key mechanism for charities to be accountable and transparent.

“As a regulator, we want to make sure that they are as useful, helpful and understandable as possible.

“To those who will act as convenors, you have a great opportunity to create a thoughtful debate around the development of a critical contributor to public trust in charities.”
