The revered year-round retreat for a multi-generational family, set amongst a rocky enclave of seasonal, waterfront homes, was designed by Robert Kastelic, Kelly Buffey, and Nazia Aftab of Mazenga Building Group Ltd, North Port Carling, Ontario, as a one-storey, wood-clad, residence and boathouse, along the shores of Lake Joseph.
Inspired by its surrounding natural environment’s rugged beauty, the residence illuminates warmth, elegance, sophistication and eco-sustainability. Featuring an open-concept main cottage divided by three distinct yet connected communal spaces, and private bedroom suites.
With each bedroom sandwiched between parallel stone ridges, the designers have created a visual boundary intended to extend the perception of space and provide optimal privacy, without compromising view.
Offering a serene oasis for it inhabitants, the Metrick Cottage and Boathouse, utilizes a multitude of wood textures, including semi-charred fir cladding and torrified-ash which wrap its interior floors, walls, and ceilings.
