Instagram Live users can now donate as they watch

Charity

Instagram has launched a new function that allows viewers to donate to charity while watching Instagram Live events.

Users broadcasting on Instagram Live can now choose a charity when they start the stream and will be able to see how many people are supporting the fundraiser and the amount of money being raised.

There is also an option to thank viewers who have donated during the stream using the wave function.

An Instagram statement announcing the new feature said: “Many people are facing challenges at this time, and we want to do our part to support non-profits and communities that need it the most.

“Now you can easily create a fundraiser on Live, with 100 per cent of the money raised going directly to the non-profit of your choice.”

The picture-sharing social media platform has also introduced an “I donated” sticker, created by the Brazilian Instagram user and illustrator @leonatsume, which users will be able to display in their Instagram stories to show their followers that they have made a donation.
