Charities are being invited to apply for shares of £1m to help them in areas including taking legal action related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The grant-maker the Baring Foundation said today it would offer grants of up to £40,000 to support legal action that sought to protect vulnerable people and communities from the impact of Covid-19.
The funds will be available to organisations that have demonstrable legal expertise in the areas in which they operate and have annual incomes of less than £5m.
The first deadline for funding from this stream is noon on 28 May.
The foundation will also make grants of up to £5,000 to assist organisations whose operations have been severely affected by the coronavirus outbreak and distribute funding of up to £30,000 to hub organisations that provide expert legal advice to other civil society organisations.
The funds are being made available under the Strengthening Civil Society programme, which supports civil society to use the law to achieve social change and is operated by the foundation with the Legal Education Foundation and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
