The Suicide Squad: Michael Rosenbaum Turned Down A Mystery Role

Movies

Michael Rosenbaum turned down a mystery role in The Suicide Squad. Rosenbaum has been acting for over twenty years, but really gained fan recognition when he became a series regular on Smallville as Lex Luthor. The actor has voiced several animated superhero movies and TV shows over the years, and also appeared as Martinex in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The first Suicide Squad in 2016 had a large cast, with the film introducing Harley Quinn, Deadshot, the Joker, Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, El Diablo, Slipknot, and Killer Croc to the DC Extended Universe. Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney have all been confirmed to return for The Suicide Squad, but even more new characters from the comics are being included in the sequel. The Suicide Squad has an even bigger cast than the first movie, with characters like King Shark, Ratcatcher, and Polka-Dot Man set to appear. The cast of The Suicide Squad is quite extensive, but now it has been revealed that Rosenbaum almost had a role in the movie.

After talking to Comic Book, Rosenbaum shared that he almost had a role in The Suicide Squad. Rosenbaum was set to play a specific character in The Suicide Squad, but he had to turn down the role due to a neck surgery. The actor wouldn’t disclose what character he was supposed to play and was very thankful that Gunn had even offered him a role. Gunn did confirm in a comment on Twitter that it would have been a cameo role. The director also made a joke about Rosenbaum’s comment, which can be seen in his tweet below:

Aside from the list of cast members and the characters set/rumored to appear in the movie, there isn’t a lot known about The Suicide Squad. For a while, it was believed the movie could be a reboot, but it will likely be a sequel/soft reboot since select characters are returning and because you don’t have to watch Suicide Squad before going to see Gunn’s film. It has also been confirmed that the film will take place after Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Fans would have loved to see Rosenbaum in The Suicide Squad given his DC background, but clearly, having surgery is more of a pressing matter than appearing in a cameo role. The role is also probably being kept a secret at this point to avoid spoilers for the movie, but after The Suicide Squad is released, the news of who replaced Rosenbaum will surely come out. Rosenbaum won’t be appearing in The Suicide Squad, but given Gunn and Rosenbaum’s long-time friendship, fans can expect to see him in one of Gunn’s future projects.
