Covered in paint and looking pleased as punch, Prince Louis holds his rainbow painted hands up to the camera and cheekily smiles in a charming new series of pictures, released ahead of the prince’s second birthday on April 23. Prince Louis, now the spitting image of his older brother George (albeit with darker hair and thicker eyebrows) has clearly been having plenty of fun in isolation with his brother and sister.
The photographs were taken by Duchess Kate, a keen photographer, at the family’s Norfolk estate, where the Cambridges have been in isolation for the past month. They show that the little prince is quite the artist, having proudly displayed his rainbow handprint on a piece of paper— the rainbow being a tribute to the National Health Service workers, whom George and Charlotte have also supported with their own online outreach.
William and Kate have revealed previously that their talkative youngest child, who is something of a handful, has been enjoying Zoom time with his extended family—although the video calls often come to an abrupt end because Louis is drawn to the red (end call) button.
“It gets a bit hectic, I am not going to lie, with a [nearly] two-year-old.” Kate said of the family video calls in a recent interview with the BBC. Palace aides have said that the Cambridges are strictly adhering to the government’s rules on social distancing and have been self isolating since the lockdown was announced.
Usually members of the royal family as well as the Middletons are invited to a birthday tea, but this year Louis’s birthday, which comes two days after the Queen’s 94th birthday, will be a low-key affair.
“They won’t be seeing their families or anyone else which will make it a quieter day than usual, but the weather has been lovely so I imagine they will be out in the garden playing games and having lots of fun,” a family friend told Vanity Fair. “Kate will probably plan a tea party in the afternoon. The children love being outside and having picnics and they’ve had a wonderful Easter holiday where they have been outdoors all the time.”
