Marvel Studios has officially set a Captain Marvel 2 release date for 2022. It took 11 years, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally released their first female-led solo movie at the beginning of this year. Captain Marvel took the MCU back to 1995 to tell the origin of Carol Danvers aka. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). The movie was a bonafide box office hit earning over $1.1 billion worldwide.
It wasn’t long after that Captain Marvel returned to the MCU, as she had a supporting role in Avengers: Endgame just a few weeks later. Carol made an impact on the movie when she was on screen, but her screen time was much smaller than many anticipated. As a result, there is plenty of interest in seeing her back in a leading capacity. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that they are working on Captain Marvel 2, but no other details were given at that time.
Ever since then, fans have been left wondering when Captain Marvel’s next adventure will arrive in theaters. Disney previously announced new release dates through 2023 and it didn’t take long for speculation to mount over which one could be for Captain Marvel 2. After much debate, the studios have finally made it official: Captain Marvel 2 will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
