Prestige Builds ‘X-tra’ Spacious X70 Motor Yacht Without Side Decks

Luxury

Prestige is preparing to cause quite a stir at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival where it’s scheduled to stage the world premiere of the X70, a 71ft 7in motor yacht without traditional side decks, instead offering a full-beam saloon as well as an extra-long cockpit.

The French builder and Garroni Design have reworked the typical proportions of a yacht by removing the side decks, which enables the X70’s interior to use about 90 per cent of its 17ft 6in beam instead of the typical 70 per cent, according to Prestige.

Furthermore, far more room has been dedicated to the infinity cockpit, which is mostly shaded by the flybridge and can be completely covered with a retractable awning. According to initial renderings and deck plans, the cockpit features fixed sofas on either side, while the central area can include loose furniture, sun loungers and a dining table.

Saloon options include an L-shaped sofa to port and either a dining table or a sofa with convertible table to starboard, and both sides have electric opening windows. Forward is a central galley before steps lead up to the helm station, which is flanked by two seating areas.

Starboard of the galley and helm station is a side door that leads either to the foredeck, a flat area with optional lounge pads, or aft upstairs to the flybridge.

The flybridge has four sets of stairs – two to the foredeck and two aft to the cockpit – and an open aft area that can feature modular sun loungers. Further forward, the hardtop with sunroof covers an entertainment galley, portside dining table for six to eight people, twin-seat helm station and a large L-shaped sofa to starboard.

Prestige has also changed the lower-deck layout for a yacht this size by putting the master suite in the bow, with a forward-facing double bed and a private staircase. The full-beam VIP is midships, with the option of another full-beam double or two twins forward.

The stern can accommodate a full crew cabin, while the yacht has a large swim platform and a fold-down ‘beach club’ lounging area, as well as an outdoor shower.

Prestige is working with several partners including Foglizzo for leather, Duvivier for sofas and Bowers & Wilkins for audio.

Technology includes a Seakeeper 18 stabiliser and DockSense for easier docking and navigation. The X70 uses Volvo IPS, which also assists handling and manoeuvring, while owners have the choice of Volvo Penta IPS1200 or IPS1350 engines.
