Sight-loss charity changes its name

Charity

A Cardiff-based sight charity has changed its name in an effort to appeal more to people with sight loss across south Wales.

Cardiff Institute for the Blind has rebranded to Sight Life after feedback showed that people did not think the old name made it clear that the charity worked across the south Wales region.

The charity, which has 12 staff and supports people to live independent and enjoyable lives, also felt the old name was a disadvantage when fundraising and applying for funding.

The name change took effect on 15 January but the charity started introducing the new name to service users in October.

While the charity has undergone some changes including its logo, name and a change of its website address, it did not feel a full rebrand was necessary so the design of the website and colour palette have remained the same.

The rebrand has cost an estimated £1,400 including promotional literature.

Much of the work for the name change was done in-house or for free including the logo design and updating the social media channels.

The charity also said it had appointed the former journalist and charity manager John Sanders as its new chair. He has been involved with Sight Life for 20 years.
