Oxfam GB has appointed the former Charity Commission chief executive Andrew Hind to its board.
Hind, who was appointed to the Oxfam board last month for an initial term of three years, led the regulator from 2004 to 2010.
Since leaving the commission, Hind’s roles have included visiting professor at Cass Business School’s Centre for Charity Effectiveness and editor of a voluntary sector magazine. He is a trustee of the grant-maker the Baring Foundation.
Before joining the regulator, Hind held senior roles at ActionAid UK and Barnardo’s.
He has also served on the boards of Unicef UK and VSO and was chair of the Fundraising Standards Board in the run-up to it being abolished and replaced by the Fundraising Regulator in 2016.
In June, having commenced a statutory inquiry into Oxfam after the Haiti safeguarding scandal, the Charity Commission concluded there had been mismanagement and a “culture of tolerating poor behaviour” at the charity.
Hind wrote an article in September in which he defended the charity and argued that the treatment it had received from the regulator and the media was unfair.
An Oxfam spokeswoman said: “Andrew brings a wealth of experience from working in the charity sector for many years and we look forward to having him on our board.”
