6 Reasons why you should study in New Zealand

Destinations

Want to stand out from the regular college student and experience something new, exciting and so awesome you will remember it for the rest of your life? Then you should definitely be considering studying abroad. But where you ask? Well, I’m here to tell you why New Zealand is THE place to go for an unforgettable study abroad experience.

It’s freaking NZ

What more do I need to say other than it is NEW ZEALAND! New Zealand has every amazing piece of landscape and environment that this world can offer in its archipelago nation. You know it’s good when Lord of Rings was filmed there. But how does this affect why you should study there? Well, you’ll never get another chance to study somewhere when at lunch you’ll be in a lecture, in the evening by the sea and the next day you’ll be hiking a mountain!

It’s a different country

You’re probably sat there, eyebrows raised, uttering words along the lines of “yes Henry, we know it’s a different country; we are college students”. But that is not what I mean. I mean you’ll be taking yourself out your comfort zone and in a world that feels ever more insular and that can only be a good thing. Finishing college with not only more knowledge but also more understanding of other cultures will set you apart from that average college grad!

Incredible institutions

Ah yes, the small matter of the actual studying. New Zealand has some great schools for many different areas of programs. If law or social sciences is your forte, then you have the Victoria University of Wellington in the capital of the country. Oh and if you want to study somewhere you’ll never forget, then the University of the Otago in Dunedin is the one for you, with it being known as one of the most picturesque colleges in the world. Of course, there is the University of Auckland as well which is one of the best 80 colleges in the world! These and many other incredible schools are reason alone why you should be heading down under to NZ to study abroad.

The extra-curricular

We all know extra-curriculars make up a massive part of your college experience and this is no different in NZ. Of course, there’s the national sport of New Zealand which is rugby and there is no better place to try this awesome game than at the home of the World Cup champions. But if contact sports aren’t for you then why not try some surfing or sailing that New Zealand is famous for; I mean after all ‘Auckland’ actually means the city of sails!

If sports are not your thing then don’t worry, New Zealand is so rich in history and culture that you will have plenty to discover to pass those hours away. The history of New Zealand, especially the history of the Maori is such a diverse and interesting story to discover, and New Zealand is very good at promoting learning about the Maori culture so you can even gain knowledge outside the classroom.

And extra-curricular activities for the night time, all I will say is that you can drink at 18 in New Zealand…

It’s super chilled out

Yeah just trust me on this one. As someone who’s been to NZ, it just feels different to the rest of the world, and it’s probably because of the Kiwis. The Kiwis are some of the most down-to-earth people in the world and will make you feel so welcome in their country, so much so you’ll probably feel as if it’s your country by the time you have to leave.

Oh, and you can do it for free…

Yeah, you heard me right. Go Overseas is running a competition for a scholarship to study in New Zealand worth up to $15,000 (which will cover your semester); and us lot here at STA will pay for your roundtrip to New Zealand, woo go us! So seriously, now you’ve heard why it’s such an amazing place to study, what are you waiting for? Time to apply.
