Charity deletes ‘ambassador’ Phillip Schofield from its website

A second major charity has distanced itself from TV presenter Philip Schofield following Schofield’s admission that he lied about an affair with a younger colleague.

Royal Voluntary Service said this morning that it had no future plans to work with Schofield, who has been an ambassador at the charity for more than a decade.

RVS has also removed the webpage promoting Schofield’s role with the charity overnight, which thanked him after he “supported us on several campaigns”.

A spokesperson told Third Sector: “Philip Schofield hasn’t been a very active ambassador to date and we don’t have any plans scheduled to work with him in the future.”

Until yesterday evening, the RVS had a prominent photograph of Schofield on its section about its ambassadors.

The embattled celebrity was alongside stars including Felicity Kendal, Elaine Paige and Patricia Routledge.

His section said: “Phillip has been an ambassador for Royal Voluntary Service since 2011 when he supported us in ITV’s Text Santa campaign, visiting services across Britain.

“He has since supported us on several campaigns, including Diamond Champions – a campaign to recognise the incredible contribution of Britain’s older volunteers.”

There was also a quote from Schofield: “I am very pleased to support the Royal Voluntary Service. The work of the charity makes a real difference to the lives of older people in this country.”

The move by RVS comes 48 hours after The Prince’s Trust dropped Schofield as an ambassador, saying it was “no longer appropriate” to work with the presenter.

Schofield released a statement last week in which he apologised for lying when previously asked about the relationship with a colleague. He also announced his departure from all ITV programmes.

The youth charity, which was founded in 1976 by King Charles III, said it was “no longer appropriate” to continue working with Schofield.

This follows a statement released by the presenter last Friday, in which he admitted to the relationship and announced his departure from ITV.

A Prince’s Trust spokesperson said: “In light of Phillip’s recent admissions, we have agreed with him that it is no longer appropriate to work together.”
