New twist in two-year saga as strike at homelessness charity is suspended

A four-week strike at the homelessness charity St Mungo’s has been suspended while staff consider a new pay offer.

More than 500 workers allied to the union Unite were scheduled to walk out today but will now vote on a new deal with the charity.

The union has recommended its members reject the offer, which is the latest attempt to resolve a dispute going back to 2021.

Unite said the offer was “well below inflation” and believed the proposal was “nowhere near acceptable”, according to a statement.

A spokesperson for St Mungo’s said: “The planned strike action due to start today has been suspended while a new offer is considered by Unite the Union’s members.

“We are keen to resolve the dispute, avoid strike action which would impact our clients and move forward collaboratively to continue supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.”

Unite will ballot its members between now and May 5.
