Ten charities are collaborating as part of a project to open a ‘pop-up’ second-hand clothes store in north London.

The shop, Charity Super.Mkt, will open next week in Brent Cross for one month.

Traid, Age UK, All Aboard, Barnardo’s, Cancer Research UK, Emmaus, Havens Hospice, Save the Children, Marie Curie and Shelter are all donating clothes to the store, which will temporarily replace a Topshop.

The initiative originally came from Maria Chenoweth, chief executive of Traid, and designer Wayne Hemingway, founder of the fashion firm Red or Dead.

Charity Super.Mkt said in a statement that the store was aimed at younger shoppers who were “more conscious of the impact their spending has on the planet”.

Chenoweth said the store would be “iconic”, adding: “Charity retail is the understated best of sustainable business. There is no better example of a green circular economy in action at this scale.

“Charity retail provides everyone the opportunity to buy good and do good, from supporting the environmental benefits of shopping second-hand to providing critical funding for causes both local and global.”
