In the latest weekly epsiode of the Third Sector Podcast, editor Emily Burt and features and analysis writer Rebecca Cooney explore what we know and what we don’t know about the Brexit deals impact on charities.
On 24 December 2020, the UK government and the European Union announced a last-minute trade deal in the wake of the UK’s departure from the EU.
While there are still a few things that are up in the air, the 1,200-page document does provide some answers on issues that will affect charities.
Rebecca and Emily discuss the implications of the end of freedom of movement for charities as employers, what it might mean for beneficiaries and what supply chain issues charities may be confronted with in the near future.
They also discuss what it might mean for current EU protections that relate to charities’ cause areas, such as enviromental or human rights legislation, and whether the Civil Society Forum outlined in the deal will be an effective arena for charities to be heard.
In the mini-coronavirus care package this week, it’s Crafting J.O.Y with Cafod – a Facebook live series set up by Bronagh Daley and Maggie McWilliams, two volunteers for Cafod. They describe the video series as “a monthly crafting show with a sprinkle of parenting chat and social justice craftism”.
