Philanthropist David Rothman becomes Co-Chair of UJA New York Young Leaders

David Rothman, a man well-known for his philanthropic endeavours and work in the community, becomes Co-Chair of United Jewish Appeal Federation New York.

Funding hundreds of nonprofits, local and global, UJA is the world’s largest local philanthropy and combat today’s most significant problems. They aren’t shy of resources and these are all used to be the first in line to help when a crisis strikes. Their collective voice is strong, and they use it to loudly advocate for government funding for those who need it the most across the city.

Diversity is one of their major strengths and they embrace numerous perspectives so that, together, they have the ability to get more done and help as many people as possible.

When was Rothman inspired to give back?

Encouraged as a child by his parents, who would often host events for their local UJA, he realised the importance of doing what you can to help others. This continued into adulthood and after college he decided to go to some events hosted by the same UJA with his friends.

Since that time, his most significant philanthropic work has been at UJA, however his aid does not stop there. He is on the board of the United Way’s Young Leaders Council and volunteers with Junior Achievement of New York mentoring those less fortunate to become the next generation of Entrepreneurs.  He is also a District Advocate for the Recording Academy and strives to ensure politicians do what they can to help the Entertainment Industry.

What are some of his specific achievements?

As well as being a member of the Recording Academy, having an Executive MBA from Babson College and a Certificate of Leadership from the prestigious Harvard Business School, he has been honoured with The Ludwig Jesselson Award for Commitment to Community and the Live With Purpose Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Community.

This is as a result of his continued dedication to the community and constant service to others. He is a man who knows the importance of giving back, and it has become second nature to him.

He has shown that he is not adverse to getting down and dirty to raise money for those in need, as evidenced by his boxing match with Scott Disick to raise funds for the Dream Foundation in the Kardashian Charity Knockout which took place at the Commerce Casino outside of Los Angeles. The event is meant as an amusing way of raising money for the foundation by having pugilists bid in an auction to box against the Kardashian E! reality stars.

Although the official match was cancelled by members of the boxing commission, the two decided to fight for funds and had two unsanctioned rounds in another room. It was a success and more than $11,000 was raised.

Other than philanthropy, what are his interests?

He has always had a love of music, and his passion manifested when he started working with some of music’s biggest names as the Manager of Artist Relations for a Fortune 100 company. He is present at most concerts and spends his time side stage and behind the scenes. He still finds the most joy in hearing live music played by amazing singers and bands, and loves all types of music from Jay-Z to Billy Joel.

As a result of not only this passion, but also his professional dedication to music, two years ago he became a Professional Member of the Recording Academy.

What more lies ahead for Rothman?

Not only is he becoming Co-Chair of UJA’s Young Leaders and joining the organization’s Board of Directors, but he is also progressing in the music industry by releasing his first song on all major stream platforms through his own record label, Greeny Records. More importantly, his philanthropic nature continues to shine through as 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charity causes that he is involved with.
